With this Armor

With this armor, I will face today,
shielded by faith, come what may,
mind sparked and girded with coffee,
saved by a helmet amply
supplemented with wisdom,
another gift from the bosom
of the Almighty.
However rightly
I try to hold what happened yesterday,
with grace, I let it slip away,
truth buckled around my waist,
I turn, well-braced
against what swords and arrows
may flame their way to harrow
my bones’ space. I will not be shaken,
the oath of motherhood, taken:
I defend the little ones
against invading huns,
whatever form they choose to take,
they will break
against me and not prevail.
The world seeks to destroy, to no avail.
Bolstered by a night of rest,
the gleaming plate upon my breast
will help me do my best.
I will stand my ground,
and remain discovered, found —
though calamity should strike our land,
still, I will stand,
still with helping hand.
