like a meandering tune
going in and out of the ear
or a butterfly in its ecstatic
flit from sweetness to sweetness

like the leaf exhausted by the tree
detached and lifted by the wind
to fly and drift across an October sky

or the stick floating on
the wide slow river
that chooses the path of
least resistance on its way
to the all-swallowing sea

like the radio signal
that comes and goes
like the eye across the
things the heart desires

like the feet that leave
the doorstep without any
intention except to seek
something beyond and some slight
skipping hope to find
renewal in the wandering

Continuing my textual exploration of the Inktober prompts!

Thank you, readers! Here’s to wandering. . . .
