Mother of the harvest
bereft of child, in anguish laden
the fallow months her grief reflects
maternal hardship sparely checked

Messiah’s bearer’s sorrow mirrored
mild maiden taken up to heaven
her sparkling watch is ever dearer
for those who wear perfection’s apron

This one is my sign, thanks to my September birthday, but it’s also a constellation I can never find in the sky. I’ve been fighting hard against perfection my whole life, and, probably, also against my own mother. Somewhere, I have a poem about Persephone; when I find it, I will share it as a companion piece to this one!

Thank you, readers!
