The Warrior Child
The Warrior Child, with homework laden
seeks the quiet refuge of her room.
At the whim of teachers, she is bidden
to spend her free time locked in study’s gloom.
Her privacy, rife with limitations,
beyond her control from the very start;
thanks to her family situations,
she’s forced to go against what’s in her heart.
She knows the groaning growth within her bones
will drive her forward into grownup life,
but for now she finds her peace here at home,
away from schoolhouse drama, rules, and strife.
She hides away in books, at student work,
concocting brave new worlds, where freedom lurks.
I am starting up sharing the work from The Daily Epic again! Here’s where it began:
If you’ve been following along: thank you! If you’re new here: welcome, and also thank you! I’m approaching halfway through, but since I started sharing the piece I would like to see it through to the end, one day at a time.
