The Cafe Buzzes
The cafe buzzes today
loud conversation
interrupted thoughts
a Wednesday afternoon
of writing not writing
together but apart.
A table apart
whirling words today
working at writing
around conversations.
A hot afternoon
clogs up thoughts.
Ideas for thoughts
that noise keeps apart;
will she waste the afternoon
fail to seize the day
letting conversation
erase her writing.
In silence, writing
works its way out of thoughts
its own private conversation
that stands apart
from the everyday
chatter this afternoon.
Coffee in the afternoon
facilitates writing
but today
the only thoughts
taking part
are nearby conversations.
