On not photographing something and the ensuing regret / on living and learning
upon my return
I applied what I had learned
looking with new eyes
upon the place I had spurned
my old thoughts all overturned
for years I had yearned
with a viewpoint seen, unearned
vision hypnotized
a nobody, long sojourned
from pressures undiscerned
More photography discussion??? YES. Because as the parts of a body are connected, so everything I do is connected. Today on my photo website I shared a brief version of the story that prompted the above poem — a rhyming adulterated two-stanza tanka piece. You can read it, and see more photographs, here.
The Hasselblad 500cm my father gave me several years ago is hands down my favorite camera. The weight of it probably builds my arm strength, too. As soon as I can rein in the chaos that currently rules my darkroom, I am hoping to print the image you see here, and then some. Hasselblad negatives always yield luminous, easy prints for me, which is a bonus if you know anything about traditional photographic methods. Turning out a decent print can take a long time, especially with a difficult negative!
Thank you for reading! If you’ve been to Taos and written about it, or have shared any images, I would love to see your work!
