I laid my dream in the field
to see if it would sprout
I left it a long time
rain-washed
sun-baked
night and day passed
overhead, around,
light and dark took turns,
and the grass rose up
accepting it as its own

When I finally
lifted it up and saw
the shape of my heart,
I knew the roots had grown
in another place
the dream had taken hold
somewhere else
in a way I didn’t expect

I sowed
I reaped
I weep

My friend Kimberly McAfee posts prompts every month on her instagram. This picture prompt from her spoke to me; what does it say to you?

Thank you, readers!
