Ordo Amoris

Radiating love for Valentine’s Day

I woke up to thunder before dawn
and the pouring down that followed,
such a heavy rain that the water stood
pooled in the yard for a while after it finished falling

In the afternoon I ventured
to the creek that feeds our local lake
to see the resulting rush as I jogged
a path of concentric rings that keep me
connected to my neighborhood

The heartbeat within me
thumped in its own round ordo
supplying my body in chain reactions
as it moved and traveled
from my doorstep, outward through the streets
and past houses long since made familiar
and the residents also made familiar
with smiles and waves

Sometimes I get into my truck
with its o-shaped wheels and ringing engine
I run other places, beyond my comfort zone
taking fuel for that journey
from within, like a packed lunch,
from the core of gifted grace
that radiates through the rooms of my house
and beyond, but always begins and ends
at the same…
