Ode — To Photography
The imagination sees a document
made of light and shadow, captured in silver
caught in the net of a frame and shuttered now
against time’s process
Carefully composed, a safeguarded treasure
kept in darkness until chemistry reveals
the truth of a moment through its focused lens:
an instant exposed
I would fix my eyes to see with new purpose
what passes by in portrait or landscape form
developing a view for finding what shoots
before me each day
Through the briars, up mountains, down city streets
back laden with the trappings of this burden
filmy with creative dew, and wide open
for a photo’s cue:
to this art I’ll stay true
I have a new writing project! This one is driven by a book, and you can read about it here (on my poetry website, which I had decided to let lapse and then changed my mind for good reasons)
