Conejos River, Colorado | Pinhole film photograph by author

Put away for the season
the words begin to flow again
pens and pencils rolling out
from under furniture
and between sofa cushions
like an icy river finally
breaking free after the thaw

When November hits, I pretty much put away all strain toward creative endeavors, because juggling it with my heart’s pull toward everything family and holiday is just too much. Now it’s January and here I am trying to get back into things again, but in a healthier way, as in one where I don’t care about entries or rejection letters, submissions or judgements — I’m just in it for the joy. A new creative beginning, woohoo!

Usually I start the year with a lot more gas in my tanks; right now I feel like I’m gliding in on fumes.. . . but gliding is still motion, and one of these days I might feel the urge to stick a leg out and give myself a little push. Thank you for reading! I hope wherever you are at least the weather is being kind to you.
