The gift of late evening
unwrapping itself
and stretching out
under a blanket
to read a book
or watch a movie

The old moving picture show
that whirred like the evening,
like flip frames from a book,
entertaining itself
by blanketing
the audience, lights out

without
much more than a piano to accompany the movie
with the simple comfort of a blanket
well-applied, so too the evening
is in and of itself
as delicious as a good book,

and as sleepy as book-
wearied eyes, worn out
from feeding themselves
stories all day. The movie
of life hits evening,
the credits roll, the blanket

of foggy dreams-to-come blankets
the people, like the dust jacket of a book.
The quiet evening
whispers out
secrets, sotto voce, off camera, movie
starlets wonder at…
