In Color

An October Poem

At last the color arrives in warm shades
like ghosts of autumn: yellow, orange, brown
the trees sigh in relief, whispering
memories of the dog days, an old story
that drifts in the wind, the slow fall
from photosynthesis into eternal rest

This year’s October has been HOT, hotter than usual, and dry, but fortunately our trees still recognize the season and are starting to not only turn, but also to drop their leaves. Texas is as Texas does! Thank you for reading.
