Honolulu
seat of kings
island nation
now island state
in a nation that
once rebelled
against a king
a city in the tropics
that doesn’t qualify
as tropical in the
technical sense
but my senses suspect
a humid wind
blows in from the
southern sea
and one fire shines
in the sky while
another writes
new land into being
within the ever
approaching waves
too rich and wild
to be strictly defined
by a language with
only one set of
rigid words
speak, metropolis
in long beautiful
syllables
of the breeze
that makes music
in the palms
