Furry Lease

Concerning cats and pianos

Diana F, pinhole | Kodak film | photo by author (self portrait)

Whiskers tickle my toes
or maybe a tail brushes my leg
in passing, imploring affection
then there are the knuckle nuzzles
and staccato love bites
while nails scratch a
rhythm beat on the downstroke

I work the pedals
moving forward with
the quiet emotion that
would come to a boil
if it could ever reach
the forte crescendo of
its arching back,
the plaintive piano
final purred out cord
of this familiar furry lease

Yet again, I return to two of my favorite subjects: my cat and piano. Bonus points if you can guess what song I was playing when I made the pinhole image (hint: see the poem’s title).

Photo note, for my fellow film photo nerds — I made this as a test of the little Diana F’s pinhole capability. It’s not as wide as I expected, being pinhole, but that could be because I had the lens on the camera at the time. One of these days I will do it again, with my main squeeze Ondu 6x6 pinhole instead. Also I might play a longer song.
