Eclipse

The day of the annular eclipse

Amy Jasek

--

cyanotype print by author (made in eclipse light)

Fogged light October
Crystal sky dimmed by the moon
Night’s bright gemstone shell
Crystalline memories shine through
Pinpricks from another world

stunted sun
cowed by sister night
she moves by, sly
a coy reminder of our precarious past
when then earth gave shelter and sustenance
and the sky rained down both
grace and terror

like now
only with what we
measure as more knowledge

ancestors turn in their graves
watching for the light’s return

Undoubtedly many of you, dear readers, are aware that there was recently an annular eclipse — although I realize that the whole world couldn’t see it the same way we did in Texas.
