At the Zoo
Where the light shines without heaviness
both the animals and time are encapsulated
like memories photographed
Duck! Here comes one,
flying at you like it was going south
quicker than a toddler’s mood
Once, the lion stood in front of the
window and roared for five minutes,
bailing on his harem as if he
wanted us to pay his and get him
out of there at least on parole
Maybe he was fed up with the
noise from the Gibbon band nearby,
his nerves as frazzled as the fur
on the tip of his tail
Friend, it could be worse.
They brought you here to save
your skin, for the future to
get a peek at you, at yours.
Both this moment and you are golden.
