Sometimes, something’s gotta give
I’ve been mostly absent from Medium lately, because there aren’t enough hours in the day, but there *is* such a thing as too much screen time and eyestrain. I spent several of those absentee days camping, which was amazing. I’m hoping that sometime soon I will be able to get down to the business of developing the film from that trip, especially since I took a large format camera with me and I am keen to see how those images came out. (Usually, I wreck all my large format work.)
Before the trip, I worked like a madwoman to prepare for a cyanotype / poetry show which was installed at the end of March and has its official opening on April 9th. I even managed to make a book out of the work! Considering how my brain goes into automatic shutdown when I look at Blurb’s bookmaking software, I’m high 5ing myself for managing to bring that part of the show to completion. After the opening, my Mom will be getting a copy as a belated bday present (ssshhhh, don’t tell her).
Otherwise, I have thrown myself with fanatical devotion into a project for National Poetry Month that you can read about here
National Poetry Month Ekphrastic Project! | Film Shooters Collective
Friends, April is National Poetry Month. Not only that, this particular April, 2021, is National Poetry Month's 25th…
I’ve been a member of and worked (volunteered, I should say) for the Film Shooters Collective for quite a few years now, but this the first time I’ve instigated a project quite to this scale — and the first time we as a group have collaborated with artists from other disciplines — so it’s been an interesting journey so far. If you’re on Instagram, check us out. . . . . also we have thrown open the possibility for other Instagram peeps to join in the melee. . . . . just in case you’re looking. . . .
On top of everything else (because who needs rest?), I am also beavering away at my own thing for National Poetry Month, since it coincides with NaNoWriMo’s Camp. Never mind that writing 50,000 words last November for a book I probably will never publish nearly landed me in wrist braces: once more into the breach, dear friends!
I may or may not share the poems I’m writing during April on Medium, but here’s the first one on my own website (which I really should use, since I pay for it).

I could go on, as my daughter says “but wait, there’s myrrh!,” but I won’t. Here ends my boring you with an update on my life! Thank you, if you’ve read this far! Hopefully one of these days I’ll be able to get myself back on here and read all of your incredible work (because, truly, it is!).
